World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria

Shrouded in fog since the world was sundered more than ten thousand years ago, the ancient realm of Pandaria has remained unspoiled by war. Its lush forests and cloud-ringed mountains are home to a complex ecosystem of indigenous races and exotic creatures. It is the homeland of the enigmatic Pandaren, a race that celebrates life to the fullest even while under siege by an ancient menace.

The new continent reveals itself to a broken world just as the Alliance and Horde are spiraling ever closer to a war that will consume all of Azeroth. Will the mists of Pandaria part to reveal the world's salvation? Or will the battle to control this rich and breathtaking new land push the two mighty factions over the brink of war and into total annihilation? The answers await within Pandaria's mysterious shores!

New Features:
General:
Pandaren (new race)

Couched in myth and legend, rarely seen and even more rarely understood, the enigmatic pandaren have long been a mystery to the other races of Azeroth. The noble history of the pandaren people stretches back thousands of years, well before the empires of man and before even the sundering of the world.

Denizens of a wondrous and fertile land, the pandaren once labored under the oppressive thumb of a monstrous race of ancient warlords known as the Mogu. Through tenacity, diplomacy, and a unique form of unarmed combat, the pandaren staged a successful revolution that deposed the Mogu and established a pandaren empire that would prosper for thousands of years.

During the bleak days that preceded the sundering of the world, when demons flooded onto Azeroth and threw the entirety of the mortal realm into jeopardy, the last Emperor of the pandaren discovered a way to protect his land from the devastation. His deal with fate shrouded his land within an impenetrable mist for ten thousand years, but the nature of his transaction has left Pandaria haunted ever since...

Wanderlust

It is the rare pandaren indeed who sought a way beyond the mist. Generations ago, pandaren explorers began to gather on the back of a giant turtle: Shen-zin Su. The great sea turtle roamed Azeroth's oceans, perhaps the only contact pandaren had with the outside world. Eventually, they too lost contact with their mist-shrouded homeland.

Players who choose to create a pandaren character will start their journey on the back of Shen-zin Su. When the great turtle is threatened, and their whole wandering homeland is in jeopardy of being swallowed by the sea, players will have to accelerate their training and spring into action.

During their time on the turtle, players will first encounter the Alliance and Horde. Before they are finished, they'll have to make the most important decision of their lives: Which of the two factions will they support as they venture out to heal a world broken by the Cataclysm and threatened by a global war?

Monk (new class)

Pandaren masters have chosen to share their ancient martial arts with young fighters in both the Alliance and Horde. Harnessing their inner strength and potent "chi" energy, Monks are extremely capable in every role: damage, defense, and healing.

Monks are masters of bare-handed combat, choosing to draw their weapons only for devastating finishing moves. Monk healers bring harmony and balance to every group, healing even the most grievous of injuries with ancient remedies and focused spiritual arts. And few can hope to out-last the unquenchable prowess of the Monk Brewmaster, whose empowering beverages and unpredictable combat style allow them to absorb incredible amounts of punishment.

System:
Challenge Modes

The clock is ticking. Your group is making good progress, but you realize that if you don't hurry and work as a team, you will never make it in time. You approach the dungeon's last boss with a look of grim determination on your face; you will get that gold medal this time, come what may. He's almost down, but there are only seconds left on the timer. You yell at your group mates to give it their all for one last push, fingers flying across your keyboard. Finally he drops, and your group screams triumphantly: you've beaten the dungeon's best time. You've mastered its Challenge Mode.

Mists of Pandaria's Challenge Mode presents a new way to reward great team players and seasoned dungeon specialists. The idea is simple: if you select Challenge Mode for a dungeon, you and your group will be racing against the clock to finish the dungeon as quickly as possible. The faster you finish, the greater your reward.

You select Challenge Mode before you enter a dungeon. In this mode, your objective is to clear the instance and down all the dungeon's bosses as fast as you can. Your gear will be normalized, meaning that instead of your own equipment you will be fighting using a set of items that's appropriate for the instance. That way, the challenge level will be equal for all players. Depending on how quickly you clear the dungeon, your group can earn one of three possible medals: gold, silver, or bronze. Working together as a team, communicating well, and supporting and encouraging each other is the best way to get those shiny gold medals.

So practice your pulls, lay out your strategies, and remember that communication and coordination are key. Challenge Mode is coming. Are you ready?

Race Against Time

After your group completes a Challenge Mode dungeon, your time will be graded. Finishing a run within the optimal time limit will earn you a gold medal; the further you go over this time limit, the lesser your medal. Your gold medals and other Challenge Mode achievements will be tracked, so you can show off your accomplishments and see how well other players are doing. You will be able to compare yourself with other members of your guild and even your whole realm to see who got the most gold, silver, and bronze medals.

For Glory!

The rewards for delivering top Challenge Mode times will be mostly cosmetic in nature. There will be rewards such as awe-inspiring new armor art, new mounts, titles, and more that will only be available to players who unlock them by beating the game's hardest Challenge Mode dungeons. The more medals you earn, the more rewards you will unlock. There are tiered rewards for bronze, silver, and gold. The more medals you have, the more of each tier you complete.

Pet Battle System

For years, your faithful companion pets have followed you on countless adventures. They've provided you with comfort, company, sometimes even with entertainment and hours of fun. Maybe you only have a handful of pets you really love, or maybe you have made it your quest to capture as many of them as you can. The fact remains, heroes love their little companions... and in Mists of Pandaria, they will take the spotlight in a brand-new way. You can teach your pets unique abilities and attacks, and they will use these abilities when battling other pets. As they fight and win battles, your pets will gain experience and level up, which makes them tougher and may even unlock new abilities.  Venture out into the world, collect pets wherever you find them, and train your pets to help them reach their maximum potential!

What's more, you will also have a brand-new way to add more pets to your collection. In addition to purchasing pets or getting them as item drops, you can now also encounter and capture pets in the wild. If you run into one of these pets, you can have your own pet challenge it; if you manage to defeat the capturable pet, you will capture it and add it to your collection! Those capturable pets have stats that vary, so you may end up catching an exceptionally powerful pet. Keep your eyes open!

Your in-game pet journal will help you stay on top of your current roster of pets. In this journal, you'll find vital information about each pet you own, including their names, stats, abilities, and more.

1. The pet's name
Naming your pets helps you keep track of them, and it also gives them a little bit of personality.

2. Level
As your pets fight and win battles, they will gain experience and level up.

3. Stats
Each pet has 4 stats - Health, Power, Speed, and Quality.  Health, Power and Speed increase as your pets level up.  Quality designates the overall strength of your pet's stats and will vary on every pet that you catch.

4. Abilities
Your pets can learn new abilities when they hit specific levels. You will be able to choose between several different active abilities for each pet.

5. Family
Pets are grouped into common categories called families. Families include Critter, Dragonkin, Mechanical, Magical, and there are many more. Each pet ability also corresponds to a specific pet family; Deep Breath for example is a Dragonkin-type ability, and Lift-Off is a Flying-type ability. Family determines a pet's strength and weakness against other families. Each family also has a unique passive bonus.

Training your pets is important if you want them to succeed. You can seek out pet trainer NPCs who will offer experience and achievements for your pets if you can defeat them in battle.

They've been at your side through thick and thin. Now, get to know your most faithful companions from a whole new point of view, and discover their full potential. So gather your pets, train them well, and maybe one day you will make a name for yourself as Azeroth's most renowned pet trainer!
